MERCED, Calif. — Fresno Pacific women's soccer fell to UC Merced 2-1 on Sunday. Despite withstanding UC Merced's offensive pressure from late in the game, the Sunbirds couldn't equalize in the second half.
UC Merced took the lead early when Andrea Alvarenga scored at 8:17. Jocelin Roa extended the lead to 2-0 at 19:29 with the first Bobcat scorer's help. The Sunbirds responded with
Kimberly Garcia's goal, assisted by
Bailey Roberson, at 29:55, narrowing the gap to 2-1. Neither team could score for the remaining minutes of the half, even though the Bobcats had a close shot ricochet off the woodwork.
In the second half, UC Merced maintained pressure, forcing FPU's
Brielle Calhoun into five saves. The Sunbirds recorded three team saves and kept the ball moving, keeping the final score at 2-1.
The Sunbirds are 1-3-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play.
