FRESNO, Calif. — Fresno Pacific women's tennis defeated Concordia University Irvine in a clean 7-0 sweep on Friday at the Haak Tennis Center. The Sunbirds secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions and swept all six singles matches to clinch the win.
FPU secured the doubles point with commanding victories on courts two and three.
Fabiana Gonzalez and
Yume Ueoku posted a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Following suit, Margarita Munoz and
Malia Mitchell clinched the point with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles and
Halle Faherty and
Jessica McLean ended unfinished at 5-3 on court one.
In singles play, the Sunbirds dominated from the start, with Mitchell quickly securing the first point at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Robinson. Munoz followed with another 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles against Avila.
The victories continued as Faherty triumphed at No. 3 singles, defeating Gutierrez Dearmond 6-2, 6-0. Ueoku wrapped up the match with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Johnson at No. 1 singles. In a closely contested match, Gonzalez edged Dvorakova at No. 2 singles, coming from behind to win 4-6, 6-0, 10-2. McLean added a decisive 6-0, 6-0 win over Aziz at No. 5 singles to clinch the win for the 'Birds.
"We were solid today, up and down the lineup," mentioned head coach
Sam Gaeddert. "I really do feel like this team is getting better and better the more they play. We will keep this momentum going with a couple conference matches on the road next week.
