Lady 'Birds Collect Fifth Straight Win in 7-0 Sweep

FRESNO, Calif. — The Fresno Pacific women's tennis team defeated Cal State Los Angeles with an impressive 7-0 sweep on Saturday at the Haak Tennis Complex. The Sunbirds secured the doubles point and swept all six singles matches, capturing their fifth consecutive win.

"I told the teams after our match today, that I could not be more proud to be their coach," said Sam Gaeddert. "Not pride for their impressive winning streak this week, but for their dedication to the team and their fight to win each point. Things are coming together for both programs at the right time."

FPU secured the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. Halle Faherty and Jessica McLean delivered a 6-0 win against Georgiana Parr and Charlotte Downs at No. 2 doubles , while Fabiana Gonzalez and Yume Ueoku, ranked No. 31, clinched the point with a 6-4 victory over Maldini Simic and Sofia Pavlova.

In singles play, the Sunbirds achieved a sweep, starting with McLean at No. 4 singles, who won by default over Sargsyan. Gonzalez followed at No. 2 singles, securing another win by default against Simic. Faherty contributed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Parr at No. 3 singles, while Mitchell triumphed 6-0, 6-3 at No. 6 singles against Downs. Ueoku clinched the match for the Sunbirds with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Pavlova at No. 1 singles, maintaining her undefeated streak all week long. She went 5-0 in both singles and doubles matches. Munoz closed out the competition at No. 5 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Ainoho Salo, finalizing the team's strong 7-0 performance against Cal State LA.

The No. 41 Lady 'Birds have earned a well-deserved break after their unrivaled week of play. The team is 9-4 overall and ranked fifth in the conference.
