FRESNO, Calif. — Fresno Pacific women's water polo fell to WWPA conference opponent, Biola with a final score of 19-5 on Friday evening at Sanger West High School. The Sunbirds managed to score a goal on a power play and converted a penalty shot, but Biola offensively dominated the match.
Biola established an early lead scoring at 7:19 in the first quarter, followed by consecutive goals from key Biola starters. Fresno Pacific narrowed the gap with
Regan Azevedo's goal, but Biola quickly responded, ending the first quarter 4-1.
The second quarter saw Biola dominate, as it scored five unanswered goals, extending the lead to 9-1. Despite efforts from the Sunbirds, including a penalty goal by
Dakota Lambert, Biola maintained control.
The third quarter included a quick exchange of goals, with
Maggie Cook scoring for the Sunbirds. The final quarter showcased Biola's strength as the Eagles scored four more times to end the match 19-5.
Senior
Maggie Cook led the Sunbirds with two goals and one assist. Lambert added to the defensive pressure with five steals and also found the net once.
Emma Cook scored once and drew four exclusions, which helped create opportunities.
In goal,
Evalena Filippi tallied nine saves, providing a solid last line of defense against the Eagles.
