'Birds Leave Their Mark at Nevada Wolf Pack Classic

RENO, Nev. - The Fresno Pacific track and field team wrapped up the Wolf-Pack Classic indoor meet with another strong showing, competing in numerous events alongside Division I athletes and some professional competitors.

Day one kicked off with Avril Mendoza setting a new personal best in the 200 meters, while Mikiyla Royal also achieved an indoor PR. Clara Wagner and Iyanna Fuller both improved their personal bests in the 200m. Shemar Palmer maintained his dominance in the 200 meters, finishing second behind a professional athlete and tying his indoor best of 20.88 seconds, which still ranks him as number one in Division II.

On the throwers' side, Siolo Lua and Brooklyn Epperley performed well, but Chavez Grey stole the spotlight by winning the men's shot put with a throw of 16.39 meters. Additionally, Eric Remero and Isaac Martinez both posted personal bests in the same event.

In the 60 meters, Royal added another lifetime best, while Jerome Brown and Aamir Smith also improved their personal bests. Nydia Chance, despite battling injuries, still performed at a high level and remains in ninth place in Division 2 NCAA rankings as of this weekend. In the 60-hurdles, Syndel Lopez delivered a strong race with a personal best, Cyan Haslip also ran a personal best, and Clara Wagner made a significant leap forward with her improved time—an impressive breakthrough.

Mattie Whipple started her season in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.69, placing her seventh on the FPU all-time list.

The highlight of the weekend was the women's 4x400 meter relay team, made up of Shaniya Randolph, Mendoza, Kenahdi Haslip, and Royal. They clocked in with a season-best time of 3:42.89, earning them the eighth spot on the FPU all-time list.

In the men's pole vault, Shane Bagley claimed first place with a jump of 16 feet 8 inches, which puts him second on the FPU all-time list, just behind Olympian Keaton Daniel, who started his journey here at FPU with Coach AJ Blackburn.
