FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific Esports team launched its 2026 spring season with intensity and valuable early tests across the competition. With multiple teams in action, the Sunbirds showed grit, composure, and flashes of the competitive maturity the program continues to develop.

Marvel Rivals: It's a Start
Marvel Rivals opened its campaign against experienced competition, falling 0–3 in its first official match of the season against Minot State Red. While the result was decisive, the experience gained was invaluable. As one of the program's newer competitive titles, the team continues to refine compositions, communication, and in-game synergy.
Rocket League: Tough Competition, Close but not Quite
Both Rocket League squads faced strong opponents to open the season. Rocket League Blue battled through a challenging matchup, falling 0–4 to the LMU Lions. Outranked by a significant margin, FPU did their best against a team of Grand Champs in Division VIII.
Rocket League Orange played the most exciting series of the week, narrowly falling 3–4 in a back-and-forth contest with the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The Sunbirds traded blows all series long taking it to game seven with almost every game going to overtime.
Overwatch 2: A Win for the Sunbirds
Overwatch opened the season with confidence, securing a 3–1 victory in their first match against Hendrix College. The Sunbirds snagged a quick 0-2 win playing Control on Busan with the Sunbird's Blizzzzyy_ (Blake Johnson) getting player of the game in his debut match. Hendrix responded with selecting Push at Esperanca, a map and mode that had given the 'Birds trouble in the past. Despite an excellent display of battle Mercy by FPU's Ryloren (Riley Kirk), the Sunbirds lost round two. It was a nail-biter on Eichenwalde as both teams successfully delivered the payload with the Sunbirds at a significant time advantage. Hendrix was able to hold their ground well and made FPU work for the win. The final match took both teams to Havana where the Sunbirds were able to stop Hendrix from advancing past the first checkpoint. Captain Downtownbrown (Kyler Brown) earned his keep ending out the night with a 3.1 KD ratio.
The Overwatch team dedicated this win to the other FPU Esports teams because they had a rough week.
