Fresno Pacific Esports Gaining Momentum

FRESNO, Calif. - Although the Marvel Rivals was in a bye week, the Fresno Pacific Esports team rallied in the latest week of competition with big wins in Super Smash Bros and Overwatch.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: 2-0

The Sunbirds came to demolish this week, going 2-0 in crew battles against Eastern Central University's Tiger Danley team. The team felt excited going into this match having lost 1-2 to ECU last season. Several of ECU's players were returners playing the same characters they saw in the Fall 2025 season allowing captain Forsaur to pair the team up with more favorable matchups. The match was a one-man show as only three of the eight players on roster saw playtime. Ghostz (Armand Latortue) started off the first set scouting ECU's Sephiroth player before passing the baton to Forsaur (Forrest Gray) for an 11-stock sweep. The second set went much the same for the Sunbirds. Airvaulter (Jackson Paramo) took four stocks from ECU opening the gates for another sweep by Forsaur. This win put the 'Birds even at 1-1 going into their next match against University of Montana's Griz Tan.

Rocket League: 3-4

It was a rough week for both the FPU Blue and FPU Orange teams. Due to reschedules, Blue had three matches in a row and was down a starter after the first match giving Lil Neptune (Jacob Sanchez) his debut on the rocket league scene. Despite Lil Neptune scoring his first collegiate goal and playing above his rank, the team synergy was rocky throughout the day, going 0-4 against Fort Lewis Navy, 1-4 against New Mexico State's NMSU Black, and 2-4 against Northern Arizona University's NAU Academy.

FPU Orange faced off against CSU San Bernardino's Yotes Blue taking the series all the way to game seven. With momentum from the previous matches, the Sunbirds scored an early goal and held the lead until the last minute when the Yotes were able to tie up the game. An intense back-and-forth on the pitch showed both teams were equally matched but the Yotes were able to sneak a goal in with seconds remaining taking the series 3-4.

Overwatch 2: 3-FF

The FPU Sunbirds were handed a free win this week in their match against the University of Texas at El Paso's Honey Badgers. With less than the five players needed to compete

present, the Honey Badgers had to forfeit the night. The Sunbirds took the opportunity to run an intersquad Orange vs Blue scrimmage and had a fun night of it. The team will queue up against Rogers State University next match.
