Sunbirds Drop Match to Roadrunners

FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds dropped a tough 4-0 decision to the MSU Denver Roadrunners Friday afternoon at the Haak Tennis Complex, despite a competitive showing in singles play.

The 'Birds struggled to gain momentum in doubles, as the Roadrunners quickly took the No. 3 doubles. Halle Faherty and Malia Mitchell earned a strong 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles, but MSU Denver secured the doubles point with victories on courts two and three.

In singles action, Fresno Pacific battled hard but could not manage to take advantage in the decisive matches, dropping matches at No. 4 and No. 3 singles.

At No. 2 singles, Daimy Paula mounted a comeback after falling in the first set 6-1, to take the second 6-3, but could not push through despite a wholehearted effort in the third falling 6-4. Matches on one, five, and six were left unfinished, with Ueoku in a decisive third set at No. 1 singles.

Despite the loss, the 'Birds showed resilience in a number of spots, especially with Paula and Ueoku fighting in their singles matches and a win at No. 2 doubles.
