FRESNO, Calif.- After winning the doubles point to start the match, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds were unable to hold off a tough Colorado Mesa Mavericks team in a 4-2 loss to open the Fresno Pods.
The match started with Colorado Mesa taking the No. 3 doubles., Their lead didn't last long as the 'Birds answered quickly, as the No. 1 doubles duo of
Daimy Paula and
Yume Ueoku won their third straight match of the season, 6-4, to even the score 1-1. The deciding point fell at No. 2 doubles where
Halle Faherty and
Malia Mitchell followed their teammates win up with a win of their own, 7-5, locking down the doubles point for the Sunbirds for the third match in a row.
Despite the hot start, the Mavericks swung the momentum back taking wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. The Sunbirds briefly stopped the Mavericks roll as Paula took a straight set win at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2, winning her fifth of last seven matches.
Colorado Mesa proceeded to take No. 4, 3, and 1 singles, to secure their 4-2 victory.
