FRESNO, Calif.- Back home for the first time this month, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds battled and came up short against the Stanislaus State Warriors Saturday at the Haak Tennis Complex.

The 'Birds captured the doubles point with wins on the top two courts. The Warriors struck first with a win on court three. The duo of Halle Faherty and Malia Mitchell struck back with 6-2 win on court two. The point came down to court one where Yume Ueoku and Daimy Paula pulled out the 7-5 win, clinching the doubles point for the Sunbirds. 

In the singles, the Warriors quickly took courts five and six in straight sets. On court one, Ueoku countered with a dominant straight set victory of her own, 6-1, 6-3 to even the score 2-2. 

The Warriors pushed back ahead with another straight set victory on two, need just one more point to clinch the match.

The match fell down to courts four and three who were both locked in third set duels. On court four, after dropping the first set 6-4, Malia Mitchell surged back to take the second 6-2. It all came down to the third set where Mitchell battled but ultimately fell after surrending the break, 6-4. With the win, the Warriors clinched the match. 

Despite the clinch, play continued on court five where Halle Faherty came storming back after dropping the first 7-5, to take the second and the third 6-4, 6-3 giving her the victory to end the day for the 'Birds.

The Sunbirds will host the 2nd Annual Fresno Pods, as the PacWest heads to Haak Tennis Complex. The Sunbirds will play host to Menlo, Colorado Mesa, Metro State, Westmont, Hawai'i Hilo and Jessup all next week. The 'Birds will open up the pods with a match against Colorado Mesa at 12pm on Tuesday.
