SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds came up short against the Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles Friday afternoon dropping the match 5-2.
The Golden Eagles clinched the doubles point in a back-and-forth matches on courts three and one.
Gregor Kliimask and
Martin Ramirez were on serve 6-5 on court two when play was halted due to the clinch.
Two of the six matches in singles play required the playing of a third set.
The 'Birds fell on courts three and four in straight sets.
With the Golden Eagles needing just one more point to clinch the match,
Ravi Nelson held them off on court one giving the Sunbirds their first win of the day in straight sets 7-5, 6-0.
Despite the brief glimmer of hope for the Sunbirds, the Golden Eagles clinched the match with wins on court five and two.
The final match of the day fell on court six where
Emilio Seelbach needed a second set tie-breaker to give the Sunbirds their last point of the day winning 6-4, 7-6 (7).

The Sunbirds will play the Westmont Warriors Saturday at 2pm, following the women's match at 10am at the Westmont Tennis Courts.
