FRESNO, Calif.- Despite a singles victory from sophomore
Yume Ueoku, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds fell 6-1 to the #21 Azusa Pacific Sunbirds at the Haak Tennis Center Wednesday morning.
The Sunbirds started the match showing some fight in the doubles. The Cougars struck first taking court three, but the 'Birds bounced back with a win on court one by Ueoku and
Daimy Paula in a down to the wire match, 7-5. Court two proved to be the deciding match as
Halle Faherty and Magarita Munoz battled back-and-forth with their Cougar opponents before falling 7-5, clinching the doubles point for Azusa Pacific.
In singles play, the Cougars clinched the match taking the singles in order on courts six, five, and two. On court one, Ueoku, had taken the first set 6-1 and was up 4-1 in the second when her opponent retired giving the 'Birds their lone point of the day.
The Cougars then proceeded to take courts three and four in order, securing their 6-1 victory.

The Sunbirds will head north to San Rafael for a rematch with the Dominican Penguins, Friday at 12:30pm.
