FRESNO, Calif.- A late comeback for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds came up short Saturday afternoon as they fell 4-3 to the Westmont Warriors at the Haak Tennis Complex.

The match began with doubles action, where Yume Ueoku and Daimy Paula earned a victory on court one, 6-2. However, Malia Mitchell and Yailia Guitirez fell at the third line, 6-0, to let the Warriors tie the doubles portion of the match. At the second line, Halle Faherty and Margarita Munoz fell, 6-4, to see Westmont claim the doubles point.
In singles, after winning the first set, 6-3, Faherty's oppenent retired to give her the win on court four to even the match up at 1-1 overall. The Warriors took the lead right back with a straight set victory on court six. The 'Birds then tied the match at 2-2 where Paula secured the victory on court two with a 6-4, 6-0 win. A 6-3, 6-1 win on court one by Ueoku gave the Sunbirds their first lead of the day at 3-2. The lead however would prove short lived as the Warriors clawed back to tie the match 3-3 with a win on court three. The match came down to court five, where Mitchell was locked in a third set battle. Ultimately, Mitchell's comeback would fall short as she fell 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 giving the Warriors the match winning point.Â
