LA MIRADA, Calif. — Fresno Pacific men's soccer defeated Biola with a 2-1 victory, securing the win with a game-winner in the final three minutes of the match. Senior goalkeeper
Elmer Carballo contributed to the win by making five saves, capturing his 200th career save in the conference triumph.
The first half commenced with FPU exerting early pressure, as
Zion Vaughn tested the Biola goalkeeper with two shots on goal in quick succession within the first five minutes. Despite Biola's attempts to counter, Carballo made crucial saves to maintain the scoreline. The senior goalkeeper secured his 200th career save in the first half, tallying five overall. The turning point came in the 25th minute when
Chris Macias converted a penalty kick, putting the Sunbirds ahead. Macias has been critical on the field for FPU and has five goals on the season. The half concluded with the visiting team leading 1-0, having successfully stifled Eagles' offensive efforts.
The second half commenced with the Sunbirds applying offensive pressure, with Macias and
Julian Aran Martin both forcing the Biola goalkeeper into action early. Despite the strong start, Biola capitalized on a corner kick opportunity in the 69th minute, finding the net to level the score at 1-1.
The Sunbirds responded with resilience. After a foul against Vaughn occurred on the far side, a free kick taken by
Cristian Trujillo bounced off an Eagles defender to
Phillip Rico who swung it deep into the goal with only three minutes remaining in the game. Biola made an attempt to score but the match concluded with the Sunbirds ahead 2-1, securing a narrow victory on the road.
The Blue and Orange improved to 7-7-2 overall and 6-2-1 in conference play after the win.
