Sunbird Men Wrap Up Pioneer Challenge

HAYWARD, Calif. — Wrapping up the Pioneer Challenge, the Fresno Pacific men's basketball team took on Stanislaus State at Pioneer Gym on Saturday night and ultimately fell 65-50. Strong performances from key returners Liam Switzer and Brandon Gibson Jr. kept the Sunbirds within reach of the Warriors.

The game commenced with the Sunbirds establishing an early presence in the paint, scoring 18 points inside. Harrison Pennisi opened the scoring for the 'Birds with a tip-in at 19:13, and Loukas Jones added a three-pointer with an assist from Gabriel Quiette at 18:18, helping them maintain a competitive start. Despite Fresno Pacific's strong rebounding effort, matching Stanislaus with 21 total rebounds, they trailed 29–23 by the end of the first half.

Fresno Pacific began the second half with aggressive play, highlighted by Isaac Peralta's steal and subsequent three-point play at 19:24, closing the gap to 29–28. However, Stan State responded with effective scoring in the paint, maintaining their lead. Despite Liam Switzer's fast-break layup at 8:03, the Sunbirds struggled to close the deficit, as the Warriors capitalized on turnovers and fast-break opportunities, extending their advantage. The half ended with FPU trailing, 65–50, and Stanislaus securing the win.

Switzer scored 14 points on perfect shooting, going 6-for-6 from the field. Brandon Gibson Jr. recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, adding two steals. Peralta contributed defensively with two steals and also added four points and three rebounds. Logan Kilbert converted two 3-pointers, finishing with six points.
