CLOVIS, Calif. — The Fresno Pacific men's and women's swim team turned in strong performances at the tri-meet against College of the Sequoias and Westmont College, racking up impressive individual and relay results on their way to multiple victories.
The Sunbird men were on fire, topping College of the Sequoias 183–65. The women's team also had a solid outing, taking down COS 196–48 and posting strong swims across multiple events. Although Westmont didn't have a men's team, the Sunbird women rallied against the Warriors and ended up with a score of 75-186.
Leading the charge,
Olivier Petre delivered standout performances with wins in the 200 Freestyle (1:45.40) and 100 Breaststroke (1:02.07), while
August Ottesen sprinted to victory in both the 50 Butterfly (23.65) and 50 Freestyle (21.48).
Oskar Herbut also made waves, taking first in the 1000 Freestyle (10:29.79) and 500 Freestyle (4:56.15), where he captured a personal best and managed to drop his time without anyone to race against.
Theo Schiesari impressed across multiple events, capturing first place in both the 100 Backstroke (55.12) and the 50 Backstroke (25.86), while adding a second-place finish in the 200 Individual Medley (2:04.11). His consistency shone through as he later clocked another strong time of 55.77 in a second 100 Back heat.
Nico Barna also delivered a standout day, helping FPU's 400 Medley relay A team to a first-place finish before taking first in the 200 IM (2:04.11) and second in the 50 Breaststroke (28.17). He capped off his performance with a solid 1:00.31 in the 100 Breaststroke, contributing valuable points for the Sunbirds.
In the relays, the FPU men's 400 Medley relay team of Tony Garcia Montes, Barna, Ottesen, and Petre claimed first with a time of 3:34.31, setting the tone early.
"Getting first and second in the 400 medley was really cool," said head coach Raymond Eggert. "It was the first event and was a great way to start off the meet. We rode the energy and won our first dual meet of the season for the men's team. The women also had the best meet of the season so far! The energy was great from start to finish. Even though the score against Westmont doesn't reflect a great meet, it was so amazing seeing the growth the lady birds are starting to make. I think they are finally getting excited about swimming again. We will continue to grow and harness that passion."
On the women's side,
Jillian Lambert led the charge with a win in the 50 Freestyle (24.65) and followed up with another victory in the 100 Freestyle (54.98).
Hermione Roe and Tora Nordli went one-two in the 50 Breaststroke, clocking in at 32.13 and 32.28 respectively, while
Charlotte Wilbers earned runner-up finishes in both the 200 IM (2:18.11) and 100 Backstroke (1:03.32). Freshman
Mia Manno showcased her consistency and speed across both butterfly events, earning second place in the 100 Butterfly (1:01.79) and matching that with another runner-up finish in the 50 Butterfly (27.27). She also contributed to the Sunbirds' third-place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay, clocking an impressive 56.19 split during her leg of the race.
The Sunbird women capped off the meet with a strong showing in the 400 Freestyle Relay, where Tora Nordli,
Kaylin Mutoli, Manno, and
Mia Buller took third with a time of 3:53.30.
"The men's team showed a lot of strength and great team atmosphere with solid swims across the board," said assistant coach Rebeca. "Both teams are looking strong and headed in the right direction as we move closer to our mid-season meet."
