SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific men's water polo team faced strong DI competition on day two of the Julian Fraser Tournament. The Sunbirds did their best to rally against Cal Baptist and Loyola Marymount, but ultimately fell to both DI powerhouses.
GAME 1 | Cal Baptist University (9-17)
California Baptist dominated the early stages, establishing a 3-0 lead. Despite the Sunbirds efforts, the Lancers scored again, ending the first period with a 4-0 advantage. Fresno Pacific responded in the second period with a goal by
Chris Sandino, but CBU maintained a 7-3 lead by halftime. The third period saw a balanced exchange. Fresno Pacific's
Luke Young found the back of the net and got the momentum moving for the 'Birds. In the fourth quarter, CBU's consistent scoring ended in a 17-9 victory, despite the Sunbirds' late efforts with goals from
Forrest Gray and Young.
GAME 2 | LMU (10-31)
Loyola Marymount opened the match with a commanding performance, scoring the first three goals. Senior
Christian Clark put Fresno Pacific on the board, but LMU responded with a six-goal streak, ending the first quarter with a 7-1 lead. The second period saw LMU extend their lead, contributing to a 13-2 scoreline. Fresno Pacific attempted a comeback with a goal from
Blake Johnson in the third quarter, but LMU maintained control, finishing the period ahead 24-5. Gray and
Tristin Fox managed to get two goals up for the 'Birds, but in the final stretch, LMUÂ secured a decisive 31-10 victory over the Sunbirds. Gray's effort in the match sealed a season-high four assists overall.
NEXT UP: The Sunbirds compete in the last match of the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 26. The men's water polo team ends the weekend against University of the Pacific at 10:40 am.
