SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Fresno Pacific women's soccer and Dominican played to a 1-1 draw at Kennelly Field, with Fresno Pacific's lone goal coming from freshman Roberson's first-half effort.
The match began with both Fresno Pacific and Dominican testing each other's defenses early on. Fresno Pacific's
Takoah Castillo had an attempt saved in the 5th minute, while Dominican forced a save in the 6th minute from
Ayana Kirisimasi.
At the 28-minute mark, a deflected throw-in fell into
Bailey Roberson's path, allowing her to break past the defense and shoot one past the approaching goalkeeper to capture the first goal of the match. Roberson currently has two goals on the season and recently started for the Sunbirds in the Menlo match. In the first half, the 'Birds managed four shots on goal, keeping Dominican's goalkeeper active with three saves before Roberson's breakthrough.
Both teams continued to trade shots and fouls throughout the remainder of the first half, with each goalkeeper making multiple saves to keep the score tight at 1-0 in favor of the Sunbirds as the half concluded.
Dominican leveled the score at the 63rd minute, bringing it 1-1 in the second half. Despite attempts from
Paige Smith and
Gizelle Aguirre, four shots were saved in the final 15 minutes. The second half ended with both teams locked at one goal each, concluding the match in a draw.
Goalkeeper Kirisimasi tallied six saves over the 90 minutes.
The Sunbirds hold a record of 0-7-5 overall and 0-2-4 in conference play.
