SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — Fresno Pacific University secured a 3-1 victory over Dominican on Monday afternoon, with the Sunbirds capturing the lead in the first half with two goals.
The match commenced with the Sunbirds establishing early momentum, earning multiple corner kicks within the first three minutes. Their offensive pressure paid off in the 14th minute when
Zion Vaughn scored with an assist from
Cristian Trujillo, giving them the lead. Fresno Pacific continued to dominate possession, though Dominican did manage a shot on target saved by
Elmer Carballo.
Fresno Pacific further extended their lead in the 29th minute, as
Bryan Lopez found the back of the net. Despite several attempts from Dominican, including a shot that hit the woodwork, the Sunbirds maintained control. The period concluded with Fresno Pacific leading Dominican 2-0.
The second half began with the Sunbirds maintaining their lead, bolstered by a goal from freshman
Brayden Garcia in the 67th minute. Garcia's first time starting for the Sunbirds was against Jessup, where he had two shots on goal and effectively slowed down the Warriors' offense. Since then, the freshman forward has been a force to reckon with for FPU. Assisted by Lopez and

As the match progressed, the Sunbirds continued to apply pressure but faced resistance from Dominican's defense. Vaughn and
Lucas Ribeiro tested the opposition's goalkeeper but were unable to increase the lead. The period concluded with Fresno Pacific maintaining a 3-1 advantage over Dominican.
Carballo recorded five saves, contributing significantly to the team's defensive efforts. Lopez scored one goal and added an assist, playing a crucial role in the team's offensive success. Vaughn found the back of the net once, tallying an important goal for the team. Garcia also scored, converting his only shot on target.
Fresno Pacific improved to 5-6-1 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
