FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds went 2-0 Friday and didn't drop a set as they swept the Chico State Wildcats and the Academy of Art Urban Knights. 

GAME ONE

The Sunbirds opened the action Friday with their first game against the Chico State Wildcats. 

The first set proved to be tightly contested as the teams traded point for point. 

With the score knotted at 14-14, the Sunbirds scored three straight points off kills from Makayla Smith and Geneva Elliott to open up a lead. 

Once grabbing the lead the 'Birds never looked back and took the set 25-21 after taking four of the last five points after three Chico State errors, a kill from Mia Gilcrest, and a service ace from McKenna Hughes. 

Fresno Pacific kept the momentum rolling in the second set. 

Tied at 13-13, three straight points off a pair of kills from Smith and a service ace from Gilcrest allowed the Sunbirds to take the lead and never relinquish it. 

The set ended with four unanswered points highlighted by kills from Girnius and Gilcrest as well as an ace to end it by Devyn Castaneda. 

In set two, the Sunbirds racked up 19 kills with just one error on 28 attempts.

Set three was no different, as kills for Girnius, Gilcrest, and Smith opened up the scoring early and the Sunbirds took a lead which was as large as nine points. 

The Wildcats attempted the comeback and were within two, but the 'Birds slammed the door closed after kills from Smith and Presley Hamilton and an ace from Gilcrest to take the third set and secure the match 3-0. 

Smith led the way with a stellar 13 kills, hitting an efficient .571, while Elliott, Claire Corippo, and Girnius contributed significantly with 8, 7, and 6 kills, respectively, for a team total of 44 kills. 

GAME TWO

In the night game against the Academy of Art Urban Knights, Fresno Pacific kept the momentum from the afternoon rolling and came out hot. 

Set one proved to be the most contested as the teams matched point for point totaling in 12 tied scores and four lead changes. 

Tied late at 22-22, the Sunbirds took advantage of the Urban Knights three errors and a kill from Cambria Waites to take the first 25-23. 

In the second, the 'Birds continued to take advantage of the Urban Knights errors taking a lead early by as many as seven points at 21-15.

The Urban Knights stormed back to come within two at 24-22, but Fresno Pacific slammed the door ending the second capitalizing off an error from Art and a kill from Gilcrest. 

The third conintued much like the second as the 'Birds took an early lead.

Off the service of Amani Abed, Fresno Pacific scored ten straight points off multiple errors on the Urban Knights and kills from Smith. 

It was all Sunbirds from that point on as they continued to dominate at the net and take the third 25-11. 

In the third, Fresno Pacific hit an impressive .393, with 14 kills. 

Smith led all scoring for a second straight game with 16 kills. 

The 'Birds will close out the Sunbird Classic with a matchup against the Jessup Warriors at 2pm on Saturday afternoon.
