FRESNO, Calif- It was a hard fought battle from start to finish as the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds dropped their home opener Thursday afternoon 2-0 to the UC Merced Bobcats.
UC Merced struck early with a goal in the 14th minute to take the early lead.
The Sunbirds attempted to counter back with a shot from
Nadia Flores that fell off target.
The remainder of the first half turned into a defensive stalemate as both teams battled for possession.
Out of the half, the Sunbirds pushed the pace offensively with another shot from Flores that barely missed high above the crossbar.
The 'Birds continued to battle, but the Bobcats were able to break through again to extend their lead with another goal in the 76th minute.
The teams traded posessions to end the half with the Bobcats securing their victory 2-0.
Fresno Pacific will look to bounce back as they head to Cal State Dominguez Hills next Wednesday, September 11 at 5pm for their first road game of the season.
