CLAREMONT, Calif. - A pair of games failed to the go the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds way as they fell to the La Verne Leopards and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags Saturday at the Inland Empire Classic.
GAME ONE
The teams traded point for point to open up the first period.
Each team scored four goals with the 'Birds goals coming off a pair of powerplays from
Pietro Cattano and
Jake Canalas, and two goals from
Christian Clark and Christiano Sandino.
The back-and-forth continued into the second as both teams recorded another four goals knotting the score at 8-8 heading into the third.
In the second, Sandino and Cattano combined for all four goals in the second.
The Leopards jumped ahead in the third outscoring the Sunbirds three to one leading 11-9.
Fresno Pacific made a late push in the fourth but only manged to come within one as the Leopards closed out the game with lock-down defense winning 13-11.
GAME TWO
The Sunbirds surging offense from the morning game came to a screeching halt in game two against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags.
The Stags took the early lead and outscored the 'Birds four to one in the first period with the lone goal for Fresno Pacific coming off a powerplay from Cattano.
CMS kept the scoring going scoring 15 unanswered goals all while shutting out the Sunbirds in the second and third periods.
The 'Birds would add another pair of goals in the fourth, while the Stags added six more taking the victory 20-3.
Fresno Pacific will look to bounce back tomorrow on Day Two with games against Ponoma Pitzer at 9:30am and the University of Redlands at 3:30pm.
