SURPRISE, Arizona- In their second match of the PacWest Championships, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds took down the Hawaii Hilo Vulcans 4-2 to advance in the consolation bracket.
Martin Ramirez and Grego Kliimask put the Sunbirds on the scoreboard early with a dominant win on Court 3, 6-1.
The Vulcans countered back with a win on Court 2, with the deciding match for the doubles point landing on Court 1.
On Court 1, Sven Bangert and Ben Cronau edged out their opponents securing the lone service break and taking the win 6-4 to give the 'Birds the doubles point.
In the singles, the Vulcans secured singles wins on Court 1 followed by another on Court 3.
The two wins were all the Vulcans would get as the 'Birds would sweep Courts 6, 5, and 4 to clinch the victory.
Bangert secured the victory on Court 6, 6-4, 6-1 and Emilio Seelbach on Court 5, 6-4, 7-5.
Cronau clinched the match on Court 4 where it took all three sets after starting out hot winning the first 6-1, dropping the second 6-4, to storm back to win the third 6-4.
With the win, the Sunbirds advance to the fifth place game where they will match with the Point Loma Sea Lions tomorrow morning at 9am.
