SURPRISE, Arizona- In a close match from start to finish, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds fell to the #50 Biola Eagles Thursday morning in the first round of the PacWest 4-1.
In the doubles, the Eagles broke through to take an early lead securing victories in close matches on Courts 2 and 1 to clinch the doubles point.
Martin Ramirez and
Gregor Kliimask were knotted at 5-5 on Court 3 when play was halted.
Biola added another point with a quick straight set victory on Court 5.
Emilio Seelbach secured the lone victory of the day for the Sunbirds in a dominant performance on Court 4 winning 6-2, 6-3.
The Sunbirds continued to put up strong fights, but fell on Courts 6 and 1 giving the Eagles the match clinching fourth point.
When play was halted,
Brodie Sodersten was up a set 6-4 and on serve 3-2 in the second and Ramirez was down a set 6-3, but all tied up 5-5 in the second.
The Sunbirds will head to the consolation bracket where they will face off against the Hawaii Hilo Vulcans tomorrow at 9am.
