Two Home Run Day for Pernetti as Sunbirds Split with Eagles

LA MIRADA, Calif.- In a double header that featured high offensive octane for both teams, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds split a pair of games against the Biola Eagles dropping game one 10-0 and bouncing back to take game two 11-2 Friday afternoon.

An eight run inning doomed the Sunbirds in game one, but they bounced back in game two behind a strong pitching performance that was backed by the offense.

In game two, the Sunbirds came out strong early in the first as Trent Mallonee singled to start the game as Andrew Valdez brought him home with a double.

Joshua Pernetti kept the 'Birds offense rolling with a two run-homer straight to center scoring Valdez and giving the 'Birds the early 3-0 lead.

On the mound, Jaylen Rodriguez continued to put together strong innings holding the Eagles scoreless.

With two outs in the fourth, Pernetti got a hold of another ball for back-to-back home runs putting the 'Birds up 4-0.

The offense continued to click as Fresno Pacific added four more runs in the fifth and sixth innings with Gabe Henderson bringing in a run on a bases loaded walk in the fourth and a pair of doubles from Roman Rosales and Mallonee in the fifth putting the 'Birds up 9-0.

Biola broke their scoring drought bringing in a run in the fifth.

In the sixth, Rosales kept his hitting hot streak going as he homered to left center for a two run homer as Fresno Pacific went up 11-1.

To end the game, the Eagles were able to bring home one more run giving the Sunbirds the 11-2 victory to split the day.

Fresno Pacific will be back in La Mirada Monday afternoon as they play another double-header to finish the four-game series.
