BIOLA, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds split a pair of games against the Biola Eagles Monday afternoon losing the first 9-7 and winning the second 15-7 resulting in a tied series.
Game one was a back-and-forth affair that failed to fall FPU's way.
The Eagles opened up the scoring taking an early two run lead, but the Sunbirds bounced back with an explosive second inning scoring four runs.
The four runs came off a double from Tommy Rover, a sac-fly from Justin Tiger, and singles from Trent Mallonee and Gabe Henderson.
Justin Smith added to the 'Birds lead with a solo home run to left field in the fifth to increase the lead to three.
Biola quickly knotted the game back up 5-5 with a two run homer in the fourth and a sac-fly single in the fifth.
FPU took back the lead in the sixth with solo home run from Donte Valdez and another Mallonee single taking the 7-5 lead.
The remainder of the game was all Eagles as they put together a four run sixth and completely shut out the 'Birds for the remainder of the game to take the first 9-7.
Game two was all Sunbirds as they scored at least one run in all seven innings.
FPU and Biola opened the first with a run a piece with a single from Andrew Valdez for the Sunbirds.
In the second, off a series of errors on the Eagles a single by Tiger scored three runs followed by another single from Valdez that scored an additional two giving the 'Birds a 6-1 lead.
The Sunbirds scored eight more runs in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings taking a 14-2 lead.
The multitude of runs came from doubles from Tiger and Valdez, a sac-fly from Austin Cappas, a single for Chris Clement, and bases loaded walk for Shane Pursell.
Biola attempted the comeback in the sixth scoring four, but the Sunbirds slammed the door taking the second game 15-7.
The Sunbirds head back home for a four game series with the Concordia University Irvine starting on Friday at 2pm.
