FRESNO, Calif. - A back-and-forth match ended in heartbreak for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds as they fell 4-3 to the MSU Denver Roadrunners Wednesday afternoon.
The Roadrunners took the doubles point with wins on Courts 2 and 3.
Audrey Ouellet and
Elise Leik were in a 6-6 tiebreaker on Court 1 when play was halted.Â
MSU Denver kept the momentum in the singles with straight set wins on Courts 6 and 5, only needing one more point to clinch the match.Â
The Sunbirds fought back and retook the momentum starting on Court 1 where
Nayuma Subba secured the first point of the day with a straight sets win 7-5, 7-6.Â
Leik continued the winning for the Sunbirds winning in a third set after taking the first 6-4, dropping the second 6-2, and storming back to take the third 7-5.Â
Similarly on Court 2, Ouellet took down her opponent in a thrilling third setter winning the first 6-4, conceding the second 7-5, to go on to win the third 6-1.Â
The deciding point came down to Court 4, where
Daimy Paula forced a third set after losing the first 6-3 and came back to win the second 6-4.
In the third set, Paula came back after a break down but ultimately fell 6-4.Â
Up next, the Sunbirds will look to bounce back Thursday morning at 9am as they take on the Colorado Mesa Mavericks.Â
