FRESNO, Calif. - Strong doubles and singles play helped the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds come out on top Wednesday afternoon for a 5-2 win over the MSU Denver Roadrunners.
The Roadrunners struck first in the doubles winning on Court 1 6-1.
On Court 3,
Martin Ramirez and
Gregor Kliimask continued their undefeated win streak with a 6-2 win evening the score.
It all came down to Court 2, where
Sven Bangert and
Ben Cronau were entranced in a battle in which they ultimately came out on top 7-6 after winning the set tiebreaker 8-6 to give the 'Birds the doubles point.
In the singles, Ramirez kept the winning rolling to give the Sunbirds their second point of the day with a dominant straight-set win 6-1, 6-2.
On Court 1,
Ravi Nelson proved his dominance with a straight set win of his own 6-4, 6-3 to put the Sunbirds on top in the points 3-0.
The Roadrunners countered back with a straight-set win of their own on Court 4 for their first point of the day.
The remaining matches all went to third sets or tiebreakers.
On Court 2,
Brodie Sodersten provided the match clinching point for the Sunbirds as he came out on top after winning the first 6-1, dropping the second 7-5, and taking the third 6-4.
Despite the clinch play continued on Courts 5 and 6.
The next match to finish was on Court 4 where Bangert completed the successful comeback after dropping the first 6-3, took the second 6-3 and the third 6-2 for the 'Birds fifth win of the day.
The day finished on Court 6, where Kliimask gave it everything he had but fell 7-6, 6-7, 10-8.
The Sunbirds are back on the court bright and early tomorrow morning as they take on the Colorado Mesa Mavericks at 9am at the Haak Tennis Center.
