LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds swept the competition on the final day Convergence Tournament in Southern California.
GAME ONE
The Sunbirds opened day two with an afternoon matchup against the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen.
Fresno Pacific jumped out to an early lead outscoring the Kingsmen 3-2 in the first quarter.
The first trio of goals for the Sunbirds came from Tatum Benson off the pass from Alli Hepner and a pair for Maggie Cook off a powerplay and a penalty shot.
The 'Birds expanded their lead scoring three more goals from Maddie Murad, Sierra Coyne, and another from Benson while holding the Kingsmen scoreless to end the second up 6-2.
To open the third, both teams traded a pair of goals on back-to-back possessions.
Cal Lutheran would end the third outscoring the 'Birds three to one bringing themselves back within three to end the third 9-6.
M. Cook added another penalty shot goal to open the fourth followed by a goal by her sister Emma Cook to put the 'Birds back up five.
The Kingsmen attempted the comeback with a pair of goals, but they continued to struggle to find a an answer for Benson who scored two more securing the win for the 'Birds 13-8.
It was a strong afternoon defensively for the Sunbirds who recorded eight steals from seven different players.
Offensively, Benson added another three or more goal game scoring a team high five goals with M. Cook adding a hat trick of her own.
GAME TWO
Game two featured a first time matchup with the Augustana College Vikings.
The Vikings outscored the Sunbirds two to one early in the first quarter with the lone goal for the 'Birds coming off a penalty shot from Emily-Lopez Ibarra.
With less than two minutes left in the first, the Sunbirds scored on back-to-back possessions with goals from Benson and Murad to end the first up 3-2.
Both teams held each other scoreless until the fifth minute of the second when Benson broke through with the assist from Regan Azevedo.
Augustana tied the game 4-4 with two goals of their own to end the second.
The Sunbirds retook the lead with frenzy of offense with a pair of goals from M. Cook a trio for Benson, and a lone goal from Hepner putting the 'Birds up 11-5 at the start of the fourth.
Both teams went goal for goal the entire fourth quarter with goals for the Sunbirds from M. Cook, Hepner, Hannah Walker, and Bella Alcazar giving the 'Birds the 15-9 victory,
Seven Sunbirds combined for all 15 goals.
Benson continued her dominant day with another three or more goal game with six goals on seven shots.
Natalie Kisling had a strong game offensively and defensively with two assists and a team leading four steals.
Fresno Pacific will open up WWPA play and host the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters Saturday at 1pm for their home opener at Sunnyside Aquatics Center.
