FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds captured the momentum early and kept it rolling Thursday earning them a 5-2 victory over the University of Texas-Permian Basin Falcons.
The Sunbirds clinched the doubles point quickly with a win on Court 2 by Elise Leik and Audrey Ouellet 6-3, followed by another win by the nationally ranked duo of Nayuma Subba and Yume Ueoku 6-3.
The momentum continued for the Sunbirds as they earned another point with a pair of straight set victories by Subba on Court 1 6-0, 6-2 and Ueoku on Court 2 6-1, 6 -0.
UTPB countered back with a retirement victory of Court 3 and a straight set victory of Court 4.
On Court 5, Daimy Paula propelled the 'Birds to victory with the match clinching point winning 6-4, 6-0.
In the last match of the day, Malia Mitchell also secured a win for the 'Birds 6-2, 6-2.
Up next, Fresno Pacific will travel down south for a Saturday PacWest rematch with the CUI Golden Eagles at 10am.
