LA MIRADA, Calif. - A three game win streak for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (8-7 overall, 1-1 WWPA) came to an end Wednesday afternoon as they fell 9-6 to the Biola Eagles (7-12, 1-0 WWPA) at the Splash! Aquatics Center.
The game began as a defensive battle with both teams creating turnovers, making saves, and missing shots.
With less than two seconds left in the first off a power play, the Sunbirds converted first with a goal from Hannah Walker off the assist by Regan Azevedo.
To open the second, Biola scored their first goal of the game to even the score.
On the next possession, Maddie Murad scored for the Sunbirds to give them back the lead 2-1.
The struggles from the first reemerged for the remainder of the second as both teams failed to score to end the period.
Both teams offenses finally began to click to open the third with the Eagles outscoring the 'Birds six to two, with the Sunbirds lone goals coming from Tatum Benson and Maggie Cook.
Down 7-4 to start the fourth, the Sunbirds scored two straight from Benson to bring themselves back within one.
It was too little too late though the Eagles scored a pair of goals and held Fresno Pacific scoreless for the remainder of the fourth to steal the 9-6 victory.
Benson ended the game with another hat trick, her tenth three or more goal game of the season.
The Sunbirds struggled to find the back of the net all game as they were one and seven on the day with powerplay compared the the Eagles four for seven.
Fresno Pacific will head home for a matchup with local rival UC Merced at 1pm at the Sunnyside Aquatics Center this Saturday for Senior Day.
