FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds dropped another WWPA conference match Saturday afternoon as they fell to the Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles 12-8 at the Sunnyside Aquatics Center.Â
Concordia started off strong scoring two goals unanswered.
Christiano Sandino broke through with a goal, narrowing the gap to two.
Concordia responded with another pair of goals before
Christian Clark managed to score on an exclusion play, ending the period with Concordia leading 4-2.
The Sunbirds gained momentum in the second period, with
Jacob Renevier scoring a penalty shot and Tristin Fox following up with an exclusion goal, assisted by Renevier.
Sandino then added another goal with help from
Pietro Cattano, briefly giving FPU the lead.
Concordia responded with three goals of their own, leaving the Golden Eagles up 8-5 at halftime.
In the third period, the 'Birds continued to press Concordia's defense.
Samuel Ramos scored an exclusion goal, assisted by Sandino.
The Golden Eagles answered, but FPU's Sandino and
Blake Johnson closed out the period with goals respectively.
Despite a strong offensive push from the 'Birds, Concordia maintained a slim lead, 9-8, going into the final period.
Concordia pulled away in the fourth period, scoring three unanswered goals.
Fresno Pacific's offense struggled to regain momentum, and the period ended without any additional goals.
The fourth period came to a close and the Sunbirds fell 12-8.Â
The Sunbirds will earn some much needed rest until Saturday when they host UC Merced for Senior Night at the Sunnyside Aquatics Center at 5pm.
