FRESNO, Calif.- It was a victorious Senior Day for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds over the UC Merced Bobcats as they celebrated seniors Piettro Cattano,
Nikita Kravtsov,
Jacob Renevier, and
Eugenio Maldonado. Â
Fresno Pacific started strong, leading 5-4 at the end of the first period. Key performances from Cattano and
Forrest Gray helped set the pace, each contributing significantly to the Sunbirds' scoring. Cattano netted five goals throughout the match, while Gray added three more, cementing their roles as integral parts of the Sunbirds' offense.
UC Merced countered with a solid performance, despite their efforts, the Bobcats struggled to keep up with Fresno Pacific's offensive momentum, especially in the third period where the Sunbirds scored five goals.
The game's intensity escalated in the final period, but Fresno Pacific maintained control. Each team exchanged goals, but the Sunbirds held on to their lead, with goals from Tristin Fox and Cattano sealing the deal. UC Merced managed to score two more goals, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit as the 'Birds secured the victory 16-12.Â
The Sunbirds will head out on the road for their final two games of the season, the first game against Biola Friday at 7pm followed by Concordia University Irvine Saturday at 1pm.Â
