FRESNO, Calif.- It was all Fresno Pacific Sunbirds from start to finish as they swept the Menlo Oaks Wednesday evening on Block Out Breast Cancer Night at the Special Events Center.
In set one, the Sunbirds started off strong, quickly taking control winning six straight points behind kills from
Makayla Smith,
Madison Girnius, and
Geneva Elliott.
Throughout the set, Fresno Pacific continued to capitalized on Menlo's mistakes while also dominating offensively to take the set 25-15.
The second set was a dominant display by the Sunbirds, with a stellar .667 hitting percentage and no attack errors, the first no error set of the season.
Menlo managed 10 kills, but FPU's aggressive serving was the key factor, with 8 service aces in the set.
Cambria Waites continued her impressive performance, contributing both from the service line and in setting up the offense, as the 'Birds breezed to another 25-15 win.
Set three proved to be the most competitive as the Sunbirds and Oaks traded point for point with multiple lead changes and six ties.
With key plays from Smith and
Yajaira Gahagan, the 'Birds managed to pull ahead late and seal the set 25-22, completing the sweep.
The offense was firing on all cylinders tonight as nine different Sunbirds combined for 34 kills.
Fresno Pacific was also dominate from the service line as they recorded a season high 13 services aces, with four from Waites.
The Sunbirds will continue PacWest conference homestand Saturday as they welcome the Dominican Penguins to the Special Events Center Saturday at 2pm.
