Sunbirds Drop Season Opener to Coyotes

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (0-1 overall) fell 6-0 to Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes (1-0 overall) Thursday night at Ramirez Field.

The Sunbirds fell behind early, allowing a Coyote goal in the 5th minute. The Sunbirds managed to hold off the Coyotes defensively until the 26th minute but the Coyotes went up 2-0 after a ball soared off the keeper into the back of the net.

The Coyotes added two more goals in the frist half, one in the 35th minute and another two minutes later in the 37th to go into the half leading 4-0.

Fresno Pacific came out of half time with defensive adjustments that slowed the Yotes' frantic pace but failed to generate much offense of their own.

Maria Eir Magnusdottir and Karyssa Lopez attempted to create pressure putting up shots in the 69th and 85th minute but the CSUSB goalkeeper handled both saves.

San Bernardino would add to their total with goals in the 67th and 80th minute to win the game 6-0.

The Sunbirds look to bounce back this Saturday at 11:00 am with another CCAA/PacWest clash against Dominguez Hills.
