FRESNO, Calif.- Sven Bangert grabbed a straight sets victory but the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (3-9 overall) fell 6-1 to the Azusa Pacific Cougars (14-5 overall) Friday afternoon at the Haak Tennis Complex.

Bangert's first win of the year in #6 singles grabbed a point for the Sunbirds rewarding a gritty effort against one of the best teams in the PacWest.

Azusa jumped out to a 1-0 lead in doubles winning on the first two courts.

Angel Espana and
Pablo Zubieta took the first game but were losing 5-3 when their match was left unfinished due to Azusa Clinching the point.

Martin Ramirez and Bangert were the lone Sunbirds to win their opening set in singles, but losses on court no. 1 and court no. 3 pushed Fresno Pacific to the brink.

Azusa would clinch the match on court no. 2 first, as
Ben Cronau won the 2
nd set but fell 6-1 in the third.

Bangert would win 6-2, 6-2 to tally a point and his second win of the year.

Ramirez battled in the third set but ultimately fell 6-2, 1-6, 5-7 in #3 doubles despite the valiant effort.

The Sunbirds look to bounce back on Senior Day held on Monday when they host Holy Names at 2 p.m.
Joshua Wong, Sanne Brull and Lea Falentin will be honored after the men's match.
