Subba Clinches Win in Regular Season FInale at ART U

DALY CITY, Calif.- Nayuma Subba's thrilling victory was the final point for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (11-7 overall) in a narrow 4-3 victory against the Academy of Art Urban Knights (6-11 overall) Saturday afternoon at the Bay Club SF Tennis Courts.

The doubles started off quickly with a 6-1 victory by Lea Falentin and Audrey Ouellet on court one.

Tough battles ensued on courts 2 and 3.

To secure the doubles point, Subba and Elise Leak capitalized on the lone service break over the Urban Knights to take the victory on court 2 6-4 and win the doubles point for the Sunbirds.

Court 3 was tied 6-6 when doubles play was halted.

The second Sunbird's point came on court 1 where Falentin was up 6-4, 3-0 when her opponent retired.

Art U countered back with straight set wins on court 5 and 6 to even the match score 2-2.

The Sunbirds answered quickly though with another straight sets victory on court 3 by Sanne Brull 6-2, 6-3. Brull's singles win is her fourth in five consecutive matches.

The back-and-forth continued with another straight sets win by the Urban Knights on court 4.

The deciding match of the day came down to a battle on court 2 with Subba and Art U's Maria Casucci.

The two traded serve for serve but it was ultimately Subba who was able to break Casucci's serve in both sets. Subba took the win and sealed the Sunbirds victory 4-3 in straight sets 7-5, 7-5.

It's a thrilling win for FPU, who concludes the regular season with two consecutive wins over quality PacWest teams on the road with a 300 mile trip in between.

It also will help cement a quality seed for the Sunbirds when the PacWest rankings come out next week.

With the regular season over, the Sunbirds will travel to Surprise, Arizona April 19th for the PacWest Championships.
