Azusa, Calif.- Close matches broke the wrong way as the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (1-5 overall) dropped the final match of their spring break road trip to the Hawai'i Pacific Sharks (5-5 overall) Thursday morning at the Bavougian Tennis Complex.
FPU almost took the doubles point with close matches on Court No.1 & Court No. 2.
Joshua Wong and
Brodie Sodersten could not flip the score late, falling 6-4 while
Ben Cronau and
Sven Bangert pulled within one game before falling 7-5.
Bangert grabbed an early lead on Court No. 6, winning 6-1 before dropping the second set. Bangert was back and forth with his opponent in the third set tie-break but ultimately fell 10-8.
The last match of the day saw Wong force a third set on Court No. 4. His 6-2 win in set 2, turned the tide, but he ultimately fell 10-8 to close the trip.
The Sunbirds will head back to Azusa next week to play Midwestern State at 10 a.m. at the munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex.
