FRESNO, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (1-7 overall) grueling schedule continued with a 6-0 loss to the Menlo College Oaks (4-4 overall) despite the return home to the Haak Tennis Complex Saturday afternoon.
Anticipating rainy weather, the 'Birds moved up the start time again after the women's match finished early.
Gregor Kliimask and
Martin Ramirez dominated in #3 doubles to take the early lead, thumping their opponents 6-1.
However, that was the end of FPU's advantage as Menlo came back to win the doubles point with victories on both of the other courts.
Angel Espana and
Brodie Sodersten each took their opening sets, but Menlo won in straight sets on three courts to clinch the win.
Espana ended up dropping a superset tiebreaker 10-5 in the third after losing the second set.
Pablo Zubieta battled back after dropping his first set, but ultimately fell 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 on court no. 6 in the final completed match of the day.
Sodersten's match was left unfinished after he dropped the second set.
With rain expected over the next week, the busy schedule has been shifted with FPU ready to take on Colorado Mesa at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday morning. The 'Birds are also scheduled to play MSU Denver at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon. The women will play simultaneously with all four matches scheduled for the Haak Tennis Complex.
