AZUSA, Calif.- Three singles wins weren't enough for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (3-5 overall) were edged 4-3 by the Midwestern State Mustangs (9-3 overall) Thursday afternoon at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex.
After a three hour rain delay pushed back the start time, the Sunbirds dropped the first doubles matches by scores of 6-3 while
Sanne Brull and
Daimy Paula held a 5-3 lead in the #3 doubles matchup.
Lea Falentin quickly evened the match at one, rolling through the #1 singles matchup 6-0, 7-6 (7) but the Sunbirds fell on Court No. 4 and still trailed in the match.
The Mustangs picked up the next point as well to sit on the edge of a victory before
Elise Leik wrapped up a 6-4, 6-0 win in straight sets.
But MSU would grab the victory on Court No. 6. Regardless,
Nayuma Subba gutted out the win in #2 singles against former Sunbird and grad transfer
Alice Di Matteo.
FPU will get plenty of chances to bounce back over the next week beginning Saturday when it returns home to host Menlo at 2 p.m. at the Haak Tennis Complex.
