CLAREMONT, Calif.-After surrendering the lead at the end of the first quarter, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (2-6 overall) couldn't recover in an 11-8 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (1-2 overall) Saturday afternoon at the Axelrood Aquatics Center.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps scored the first two goals before
Emily Lopez-Ibarra got Fresno Pacific on the board midway through the first.
CMS scored again in the final minute of the quarter but FPU responded by tying the game at 3 at the start of the second on goals by
Bella Alcazar and
Alexandria Jasso.
The Sunbirds fell behind by two goals before
Hannah Walker scored her first of the day to pull within one.
CMS extended the lead to 7-4 before
Tatum Benson found the net.
FPU found itself down 10-5 in the fourth after conceding a string of goals.
The Sunbirds battled back with Alcazar and Walker scoring again, but it wasn't enough to close out the roadtrip undefeated.
Instead, FPU will head back after two good showings ready for the home opener against Santa Clara on Saturday at 1 p.m. A free livestream and live stats will be available for those unable to make it out to the Sunnyside Aquatics Center.
