OAKLAND, Calif.- Displaying clinical execution, the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (2-2 overall) cruised to their second win of the week with a 5-2 defeat of the Holy Names Hawks (1-3 overall) Wednesday afternoon at the Meyer Tennis Courts at Mills College.
The Sunbirds started with a lead, dispatching the Hawks in doubles with a 6-2 on court 1 and a 6-3 win on court 3.
Lea Falentin and
Audrey Ouellet won their second doubles match of the week in as many tries, pulling themselves to .500 on the young season in the #1 doubles pairing.
Nayuma Subba and
Malia Mitchell earned the win on court 3 in their first pairing together, clinching the 1-0 advantage for Fresno Pacific.
Sanne Brull and
Daimy Paula were winning 5-4 when the point was clinched.
The clinic continued into singles for Fresno Pacific as the courts finished in numerical order from start to finish.
Falentin, Subba, Brull, and Ouellet each grabbed their second consecutive wins on courts 1-4, respectively.
Falentin dropped just 3 games between her 6-2 and 6-1 sets, earning FPU a 2-0 lead.
Subba followed shortly thereafter with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Brull had to battle back from a 6-4 loss in set one and was leading 3-0 in the second when her opponent withdrew due to injury, clinching the match for the Sunbirds.
Ouellet tacked on the final point of the day for Fresno Pacific winning 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
FPU dropped the final two singles matches on courts 5 and 6 but secured the 5-2 victory on the day.
The Sunbirds quickly bounced back to .500 after starting the year with two extremely challenging opponents. They'll have over a week off from competition before they host Dominican at the Haak Tennis Complex at FPU on February 24
th at 1:30 p.m.
