SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – A defensive battle ended in a scoreless 0-0 tie for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds and the Dominican University Penguins on Thursday afternoon at Kennelly Field.
The Penguins came out strong offensively early recording two shots in the first five minutes of play.
The first offensive burst for the Sunbirds came from
Madilyn Hernandez who recorded two shots in the 14
th and 19
th minute but both were block by Dominican defenders.
Birgitta Eggertsdottir ended the half with back-to-back saves to keep the match scoreless heading into the half.
The second half proved to be all defense as both teams struggling to record a shot and maintain possession of the ball.
In the 83
rd minute, the Sunbirds had their best offensive chance of the match with a shot from
Maiya-Ann Serrao, but it barely missed high right over the goal.
Time expired as both teams traded empty possessions ending the match in a scoreless 0-0 tie.
The Sunbirds will be back home Saturday for their last game of the season against the Point Loma Sea Lions at 5pm at Ramirez Field.
