Sunbirds Fall to PacWest Best Sea Lions

SAN DIEGO, Calif. –The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds fell in straight sets 3-0 Saturday afternoon to the undefeated in conference Point Loma Sea Lions.
 
In the first set the Sunbirds found themselves behind early 5-1 before they won six of the next eight points to tie the match 7-7.
 
The Sunbirds won the points with the help of a pair of kills from Makena Ogas and Madison Girnius as well as a service ace from McKenna Hughes.
 
Fresno Pacific managed to keep the set close until the Sea Lions went on a run of their own winning seven straight points to hit their biggest lead of the game with nine points and eventually take the set 25-15.
 
The second set proved to the be the strongest for the Sunbirds as they took their first multi-point lead early behind three straight kills from Ogas and a servie ace from Catie Speas to go up 10-7.
 
The teams continued to trade points until at 16-16, the Sunbirds committed four straight attacking errors to hand the Sea Lions the five-point lead at 21-16.
 
With a set point for the Sea Lions, the 'Birds put together three straight points behind two errors on the Point Loma and a kill from Corinne Acosta to come back within three before PLNU won the next point to win the set 25-21.
 
To start the third, the Sunbirds fell behind early 12-8 but like the previous two sets, put together a string of points to come back and tie the match 12-12.
 
The Sea Lions however proved why they are the best in the PacWest winning 10 of the next 12 straight points to take a commanding 23-14 lead.
 
Fresno Pacific managed to record two more points before the Sea Lions won the next two to take the third 25-16 and the match 3-0.
 
The Sunbirds will head home for the first of their last two home games of the season with the first coming on Wednesday against Concordia University Golden Eagles at 6pm at the Special Events Center.
