Senior Celebration Powers 'Birds Bettering Biola

FRESNO, Calif.-Two of the most efficient sets of the season saw the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (12-16 overall, 8-11 PacWest) offense explode for a four set win over the Biola Eagles (15-9 overall, 11-6 PacWest) to send three seniors off in celebration Saturday night in the Special Events Center.

Makena Ogas led the way in her final home match with 16 kills and four blocks while fellow super senior Corinne Acosta added 10 kills without an error while adding a match high 21 digs.

FPU started strong in the first set but Biola remained on their heels throughout.

The Sunbirds received a strong effort from Claire Corippo who delivered four errorless kills in the opening set. The 'Birds also limited their mistakes while forcing Biola into nine errors in the frame.

FPU sealed the set 25-21 after Biola avoided a few set points.

Fresno Pacific dominated the second set with Mckenna Hughes massive service run sparking an eleven point run that put FPU out in front 13-2.

The Sunbirds would hit .406 in the set and cruise to a 25-13 win to take a 2-0 lead.

Biola played its cleanest set in the third, hitting .235 and made just two errors while earning 10 kills.

FPU rode behind Ogas in what turned out to be the final set as she had six kills in the frame and added two blocks, spurring FPU's highest attacking set of the season at .536 and had 18 total kills.

Mia Gilcrest also added five kills in the set and finished with 13 total kills on the afternoon.

The Sunbirds wrapped up the final set 25-13 to add its second most lopsided game of the season.

While the 'Birds hit .248 for the match, the second and fourth sets represented two of the best this season for Fresno Pacific.

The win gives FPU a four-match home winning streak to conclude the matches at the Special Events Center this season.

Fresno Pacific will wrap up the regular season on November 17th at Dominican University in the Conlan Center.
