Offensive Struggles Lead to First Conference Loss for Sunbirds

LA MIRADA, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (3-10 overall, 0-1 conference) dropped their first WWPA conference game to the Biola Eagles (12-9, 2-0 conference) Thursday afternoon at the Splash! Aquatic Center.

The Eagles took an early lead scoring five unanswered goals in the 1st quarter.

The first goal for the Sunbirds finally came at the beginning of the 2nd quarter as William Green found the back of the net off the pass from Piettro Cattano.

Biola scored two more before the 'Birds answered off a goal from Christian Clark with an assist by Samuel Ramos to end the scoring for both teams in the 2nd quarter.

The Sunbirds offensive struggles continued as the Eagles scored four more goals in the 3rd period to take a commanding 11-2 lead.

In the 4th, the Eagles would add on two more goals while continuing to shut out the Sunbirds for the remainder of the game to win 13-2.

The Sunbirds' loss is the first time all season that the 'Birds have been shut out offensively in the second half.

Ethan McLaughlin and Chase Hammes split time in the goal, with McLaughlin recording eight saves while Hammes tallied four.

Fresno Pacific will look to bounce back tomorrow in the Lancer Joust with their first game tomorrow at 11:20am against host California Baptist at the Lancer Aquatic Center.
