IRVINE, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (2-10-1 overall, 1-4-1 conference) fell to the Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles (10-1-1 overall, 5-0-1 conference) Saturday night after a late furry of second half goals pulled the Eagles ahead of the Sunbirds 4-1.
To open the game, the Golden Eagles scored quickly in the 9th minute to take an early one goal lead.
Less than 30 seconds later, on the counter attack
Nadia Flores broke through with a goal of her own to even the game 1-1.
The next 30 minutes was a defensive battle with both goalies recording a pair of saves.
In the 43rd minute, the Golden Eagles found the back of the net again taking the 2-1 lead heading into the half.
Out of the half, CUI wasted no time scoring their third goal and fourth goal in the 49th and 63rd minute to take a three goal lead 4-1.
The Golden Eagles were awarded a penalty kick in the 71st minute, but it was unsuccessful as
Birgitta Eggertsdottir made an incredible save to keep the Sunbirds within three.
Off of a free kick in the 73rd minute the Sunbirds had their best chance of the second half as
Karyssa Lopez attempted a shot down in the low middle of the goal, but it was saved by the Golden Eagle's goalie.
With the clocking winding down, Eggertsdottir recorded back-to-back saves in the 83rd minute to keep the score 4-1.
A corner kick was awarded to the Sunbirds in the 90th minute, but it wasn't enough as the clock expired giving the Golden Eagles the win.
Fresno Pacific will continue it's Southern California road trip with a matchup against the Azusa Pacific Cougars Monday at 7:30pm at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
