SAN JOSE, Calif.-Early deficits proved too much to overcome for the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (3-18 overall) in 12-10 and 15-7 losses to Long Island University and Princeton, respectively, Saturday at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament.
Down 2-0 in the early going, FPU quickly responded in the morning game against LIU with goals by
William Green and
Christian Clark to tie the score at two before the end of the opening period.
But five 2
nd quarter goals by the Sharks in the second quarter put FPU in a hole it would not get out of.
Green and Clark each scored one goal in each of the first three quarters, but FPU trailed 10-7 entering the fourth.
The Sunbirds trailed by as many as four goals in the fourth, but
Scott Tashima scored twice to pull it within two.
Both teams were held without a goal for the final 2:43 after a
Nikita Kravstov goal made it 12-10.
Green registered his 7
th hat trick of the season and second in as many games in the Bay Area.
In the afternoon, Princeton raced out to a 6-0 lead at the start of the second quarter before
William Green found the back of the cage.
Princeton piled on five more goals in response to make it 11-1 before a
Nikita Kravstov goal in the third broke the streak.
The Sunbirds scored four of the last five goals with
Andrew Duncan collecting a hat trick in the loss.
Fresno Pacific concludes the tournament on Sunday, taking on San Jose State at 10:40 am.
