Saboya Delivers First Brace in FPU's Loss at CUI

IRVINE, Calif.-Surrendering a pair of goals less than five minutes apart on two separate occasions the Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (5-6-1 overall, 2-3-1 PacWest) fell 5-2 to the Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles (4-7 overall, 3-3 PacWest) Saturday afternoon.

Fabricio Pozas Saboya netted both of Fresno Pacific's goals in the loss, netting the first brace of his collegiate career as well as his first two goals of the season.

The match was scoreless through the first half hour but CUI struck in the 40th and 44th minutes to leap out to a 2-0 lead.

Saboya headed home the final play of the first half, redirecting a corner kick from Emanuel Aguayo inside the front post to get Fresno Pacific on the board.

CUI wasted no time in the second half, scoring 43 seconds after the break to extend its lead. They added another goal five minutes later to make it 4-1.

Saboya stepped up less than three minutes later on a penalty kick, cashing it in to pull FPU back within two.

But the Golden Eagles scored again in the 75th minute to make it 5-2.

The physical contest saw FPU draw a majority of the whistles against them with CUI edging the Sunbirds in shots, which translated to the scoreline.

The Sunbirds finish the Southern California swing and the road trip Monday evening in Azusa against the Cougars.
