RESULTS
SANTA CRUZ, Calif.- The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds Swim & Dive team competed strong at the two-day Slug Shootout hosted by UC Santa Cruz Friday and Saturday with the men claiming top spot and the women finishing in sixth.
FPU's men cleared the field, which included three conference rivals, by 100 points thanks to some impressive performances.
DAY ONE
Jan Bialecki logged the first win of the day in the 100-yard butterfly while
Nelson Maier's 100- yard backstroke,
Maximillian Pecile's 400-yard IM and
Rasmus Hanson's 50-yard freestyle were among the Sunbird men's best individual finishes Friday in Santa Cruz.
The team of Bialecki, Hanson,
Konstantin Ilijic, and
Martin Beitveit recorded the first team relay win of the weekend with their blistering time of 1:26.55 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
On the women's side,
Charlotte Wilbers 200-yard freestyle,
Camilla Alduenda's 100 yard-backstroke, and
Mia Buller's 100-yard butterfly were among the top scorers.
The men finished the day in first place leading UCSC by more than 73 points while the women finished in sixth.
DAY TWO
The dominance continued in Day Two as multiple Sunbirds recorded top place finishes.
The team of Maier,
Ezekiel Cardona, Bialecki, and Hanson won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.07.
Bialecki won a pair of races in the 100-yard freestyle and the 50-yard butterfly.
Top three finishes also came from Maier who came in second place in the 200-yard backstroke, a third place for Pecile in the 200-yard IM, and
James Robinson who came in second in the 200-yard butterfly.
Wilbers recorded a top-three finish in the 500-yard freestyle and a sixth-place finish in the 200 yard IM to become the top scorer of the meet for the women.
Top ten finishes from Alduenda in the 200 yard backstroke and
Aline Miller in the 1650 yard freestyle provided the Sunbirds with much needed points.
The women finished in sixth place, while the men's team took home the title with 761.5 points, more than 181 points than second place and host UCSC.
The Sunbirds will be back in the pool October 21
st against PCSC rival Biola at 1pm in La Mirada.
